On 21 September 2003 cars were banned from the Brussels Capital Region for the Car Free Day. A large number of "Brusselairs", the inhabitants of Brussels, took to the streets by bike. The Brussels Rainbow House, the information and meeting point of the gay and lesbian community in Brussels, participated by making and selling belgian waffles on the sidewalk
